International Girl child day was celebrated by NSS prerna cell on the 11th  of October from 6 pm at Prerna classroom. This event was attended by members of Prerna cell as well as other students. At the beginning of the event, a student of IIT Roorkee gave a short speech to the students of grade 9 gathered there, about the importance of women and upliftment of the girl child. All the students were asked to observe it carefully. Later, many students of grade 9 were asked to give a speech or speak anything related to empowerment of girl children. Many students came forward and spoke boldly on their views about how a girl child must be treated and given proper education.Later, a short video was shown to the students about the successful women of our country like Kalpana Chawla, Kiran Bedi, Indira Gandhi and Pratibha Patil. The youngsters were also told to treat their mothers and sisters with respect. After that, a senior student of NSS read out a poem which mesmerized the audience. Finally, the prizes were distributed to the students of grade 9 who had spoken well.
          To conclude, this event was very enlightening and it opened the eyes of all present to the importance of treating woman with respect and educating each and every girl child in our country.
