At the peak of
Roorkee’s harsh winter, a Prabhat Pheri was organized by the students of NSS, IIT Roorkee on 26th January, 2013. Students assembled in front of the Central library at 6 am, shivering and
fighting the cold weather putting forth an act of patriotism. To start off the
event, devotional songs were played in the backdrop and about 200 students began
their drive, with the flag bearers leading them. The students marched from the library
steps covering almost entire IIT Roorkee campus including Chemical department, Mechanical
Department, Khosla International Guest house, and all the major bhawans and
professor residences.
At around 8.30
am the march marked the end of their enthusiastic journey by reaching the lawns
of the main building, where Dr. Pradipta Banerjee, Director of IIT Roorkee,
began the proceedings of 64th Republic Day with the hoisting of the
national flag followed by a march-past by the NCC cadets. This was then
followed by colorful performances by the students of Anshruti and ABN School.
The event was finally wrapped up by an inspirational speech from the Director.
Wishing you all
a very HAPPY REPUBLIC DAY !!!!
Jai Hind
